Nicola's July Book Review

Book Review: The Soulmate by Sally Hepworth

If you’ve read our newsletter for any length of time, you probably know that Sally Hepworth has become one of my go-to authors when I’m looking for an entertaining psychological thriller. I recently finished The Soulmate, and once again she delivered.

The story follows Gabe and Pippa, a couple who live in a house perched high above a cliff overlooking the ocean. Unfortunately, the cliff has become known as a place where people come to end their lives. Gabe has earned a reputation for being able to talk many of them back from the edge. But when a woman jumps one night—and Gabe appears to know more about her than he initially lets on—the story takes a dramatic turn, and suddenly nothing is quite what it seems.

One of the things I enjoy most about Hepworth’s writing is how she slowly peels back the layers of each character. The story is told from multiple perspectives and moves between the past and present, with each chapter revealing another piece of the puzzle. Just when I thought I had everything figured out, another twist would completely change my mind.

I found this book to be a quick, engaging read with plenty of suspense but without relying on graphic violence or over-the-top drama. If you enjoy stories that are driven by complex relationships, family secrets, and unexpected twists, I think you’ll really enjoy this one. Sally Hepworth continues to be one of those authors whose books I can pick up with confidence, knowing I'm in for an entertaining ride.
