Official September 2026 Climate Data at Naples Airport:
Naples Got More Rain in September – So Why are We Still So Dry?
September brought some much-needed rain to Southwest Florida, but one wet month hasn’t been enough to erase our rainfall deficit. Naples Airport recorded 6.76 inches of rain during September, compared with 5.38 inches last September. That rain has been a welcome sight, and we are finally seeing lakes and ponds throughout our communities filling back up. But through the end of September, Naples Airport has received 34.79 inches of rain for the year—still 8.12 inches below the normal year-to-date total of 42.91 inches.
For those of us who live here year-round, September weather has been pretty typical—hot, humid days followed by afternoon thunderstorms that can roll through quickly and leave us with another beautiful evening. Temperatures were actually a little cooler than last September, with a monthly high of 93 degrees compared to 94 degrees last year.
Perhaps the best weather news, however, has been what's not happening. The 2026 Atlantic hurricane season has been remarkably quiet. September is normally the peak of hurricane season, yet we made it through the entire month without a single hurricane forming in the Atlantic.
For our seasonal residents getting ready to return to Naples, don't let the daily rain chances on the weather app scare you! Afternoon showers are a normal part of our summer and early fall weather pattern. More importantly, it's been nice to turn on the local forecast and see a very quiet Atlantic. We certainly don't take that for granted. Hurricane season isn't over until November 30, but so far, Mother Nature has been very kind to Southwest Florida.
