Can A Longtime Naples Favorite Still Deliver?
As I mentioned in this month’s Hello From Naples, my mother turned 83 on October 11. When it came time to choose a restaurant for her birthday dinner, there was not much debate. Her favorite restaurant in Naples is The Bay House.
Our family has been going there for years, and a few traditions have developed along the way. We always order the cornbread, and we have learned to request an inside table. The outdoor patio is beautiful, but the no-see-ums seem to enjoy Nicola even more than we enjoy the restaurant. This time we remembered, and Nicola made it through dinner without becoming the evening’s main course.
We skipped our usual Lobster & Crab Pot Holes and tried several different appetizers. For dinner, Nicola and I shared the black cod and a nightly fish special, my dad ordered the Scottish salmon, and the birthday girl chose the scallops. Everything was fresh, well prepared and better than we remembered.
The service was excellent and helped make my mom’s birthday feel special. The atmosphere may be a little old-school compared with some of Naples’ newest restaurants, but that is part of the charm. The Bay House knows what it is: a classic, seafood-focused Naples restaurant with a beautiful setting and a menu built for a special evening.
It is not inexpensive—but this is Naples, and we were celebrating an 83rd birthday. The food was excellent, the service was even better and, most importantly, my mom had a wonderful night with her family.
So, can a longtime Naples favorite still deliver? For our family, the answer is absolutely yes.
